Cover Reveal and a Whole Lot More!

I was so pleased with your comments about the cover design for MURDER OUTSIDE THE BOX. You provided great feedback, and I took your advice to heart. I’m delighted to show you the front cover before anyone else has a chance to see it! (And many thanks to Rebecca Evans for her outstanding talent and skill in capturing the perfect nuances!)

I hope you agree that the cover has great eye appeal, conveys a bit of accurate information about the plot of the book, sets a mysterious tone, and fits in with the other covers in the Detective Parrott series. A tall order, and I couldn’t have decided on it without you!

I’m happy to announce that I’ve almost finished writing the first draft of MURDER OUTSIDE THE BOX. I’ll have more about that at the end of this newsletter.

First, I’d like to share a few of the extraordinary things I’ve been doing during the month of September.

On September 7, at the Serious Fun party at The Grand 1894 Opera House, some serious bidding went on for one winner to be a named character in MURDER OUTSIDE THE BOX. Persistence paid off, and T.J. Bath won the silent auction. The Grand made money to fund its children’s programming, and I’m excited about having T.J. join the cast of characters in the book. YAY, T.J.!

On September 15, I was celebrated as a Woman of the Year at the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce Women’s Conference. This was a once-in-a-lifetime honor that I will never forget. The Chamber really did it up right, too. I was crowned, sashed, presented with three commendations from the Texas governmental entities, celebrated in a video, and given a painting of my author photo, done by a well-known local artist.

I wrote about the experience in a blogpost at The Stiletto Gang website. Swing by and read “Woman of the Year” here. You’ll see why I want to share this award with you!

On September 28, I attended my first-ever fashion show. I’d been invited by Darla Murray, the owner of the local District Rags boutique, to be the featured speaker. I was chosen because my novel, BAD BLOOD SISTERS, included plot points related to the sex trade and human trafficking, and the fashion show benefitted Unbound Now Houston, an organization that helps victims.

I loved speaking on this topic. It gave me the chance to give back to the community by sharing some of my research and thoughts. The fashion show was spectacular, too—exquisite models, great clothes, and plenty of glam.
